How to add your first items
Pehli items kaise daalein
Add your stock to Barkat one item at a time, or import your whole list from a CSV file.
What you'll need
- Owner or manager login
- Your item names and prices
1. Open Inventory
Click Inventory in the left menu. In the Pharmacy edition the page is called Inventory; in General Trade it is called Items.
Only the owner or a manager can add items. A cashier can open this page to check stock, but does not see the add buttons.
Tip: Just want to try Barkat first? On a new shop the owner sees Load demo medicines (Pharmacy) or Load demo items (General Trade) on the Dashboard. It fills the shop with practice stock, and you can remove it later from Settings.
2. Add one item
Click + Add product.
In the Pharmacy edition, start typing the Product name. Barkat searches its generic medicine list and can fill the salt, manufacturer, form, strength, pack size and category for you. It never fills prices. Check the details against the pack, then fill the First batch section: Batch no., Quantity, Expiry date, Cost price (Rs) and Sale price (Rs).
Watch out: The first batch is saved only when batch no., quantity, expiry, cost price and sale price are all filled. If one is missing, the medicine is added with no stock. You can add the batch later: click the medicine, then + Add batch.
In General Trade, fill Item name, pick the Unit (for example Pieces or Kilograms) and enter the Sale price. Purchase price, Opening stock and Low-stock alert at are optional, but fill them if you can: Barkat uses the purchase price to work out your profit, and the low-stock number to warn you before you run out.
Tip: Selling in two sizes, like single pieces and cartons? Tick Also buy or sell in a bigger unit and enter how many pieces are in one carton.
Click Add product to save.
3. Or import your whole list from a CSV file
Click Import CSV, then Download template → to get a sample file. Open it in Excel or Google Sheets, fill one item per row and save it as CSV. Then click Click to select CSV file.
In the Pharmacy edition every row needs a name, batch no., expiry date (YYYY-MM-DD), quantity, cost price and sale price. In General Trade only the name is required; category, unit, prices, opening stock and low-stock level are optional.
Barkat shows a preview with any rows that have errors. Click Import to add the valid rows.
Done: Your items are in Barkat. Next, make your first bill at the Counter.
